The half-up bun is pretty much my go-to for second day hair. If I'm really in a hurry, (or just feelin' that extra five minutes of sleep), I employ my tease+roll+pin technique to create the easiest, breeziest half-up bun style that also happens to be PERFECT for heading back to school.
To copy this messy half-up style, start by sectioning off the hair on the top of your head with a teasing comb.
Next use a clear elastic to create a small ponytail at the crown of your head.
Now split that ponytail into two smaller sections of hair, then use your teasing comb to backcomb each section. This step will give your bun that full, messy look that you're going for.
Once both sections of your ponytail are teased out, pick one to start carefully twisting. Once you've loosely twisted it, wrap it around the base of the ponytail (leaving the other section of the ponytail hanging freely), then pin to secure.
Now take the other section of the ponytail and wrap it around the smaller bun you've already pinned into place. Double buns! Bunception!
I used three bobby pins total for this look, which kept my bun secure enough to allow me to pull and shape it gently with my fingers. Finish up with a shot of hairspray.
I love this messy half-up bun because it makes people think I put in real effort on my hair. Spoiler alert: I didn't. This entire process only takes around 5 minutes. And it's the perfect carefree look for class, football games, bonfires-- in other words, WE'RE READY FOR YOU, FALL 2016.
