Treat Yo' Self: Best Drugstore Beauty Buys for Skin and Hair
I think that by now you all know that I'm a bit of a makeup and beauty junky, which could threaten to break the bank; however, sometimes when I'm in need of some retail therapy, I just hit up my local Walgreen's or CVS drugstore. Today I'm sharing with you five drugstore products (each under $20!) that will re-energize your skin and hair while still giving you that "new product fix." 1) Biotin (~$10) Biotin is a vitamin that supports healthy skin, hair, and nails. This is yet another product that was recommended to me by my students, (in response to my complaints that my hair is so thin/won't grow any longer), but I was also warned that biotin can increase hair growth everywhere. So while taking this daily supplement can help give you stronger nails and a thicker, shinier mane, it may also demand more frequent brow and lip waxes. I opted for the strawberry-flavored chewable tablets, and I cannot wait to see how thick my mustache is at my wedding. Kidding! 2) Yes to Tomatoes Activated Charcoal Bar (~$5) Apparently charcoal is the new soap-- and this Yes to Tomatoes bar provides the detoxifying and purifying results at a very agreeable price (especially when compared with products such as the Origins Charcoal mask, which will cost you almost $20 more). The activated charcoal in this bar soap works on the face and body to smooth, cleanse, and un-clog pores. And not only is YtT an affordable and trusted brand, it is also cruelty-free, which I know is important to a lot of you luvvies! 3) Batiste Dry Shampoo Spray (~$8) If you're still seeking a favorite dry shampoo, look no further: Batiste (a UK brand that has recently become wildly successful in the US) offers amazing between-washes results for ALL HAIR TYPES. For my brunette and black-haired luvvies, worry no longer about the white residue of a dry shampoo-- Batiste makes a colored dry spray for you. If you're looking for a dry spray that offers pumped-up volume or a pretty floral scent, Batiste has a specific product for you, too. There are so many different types of this hair refresher, you're sure to find one that you absolutely cannot live without. 4) Burt's Bees Naturally Ageless Serum (~$15) Now you know I've got to include a drugstore product for aging skin on this must-have list. This serum is the perfect alternative to pricey chemical-based products, (such as Dr. Dennis Gross's Ferulic Acid Solution, which costs an astounding $88!), because it contains naturally healing and moisturizing elements like pomegranate and fatty acids to aid in the smoothing of fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes, mouth, and forehead. I have always been a big fan of the Burt's Bees line, and this Naturally Ageless serum is the perfect daily product for anyone in her late 20s or early 30s who wants to give her skin a little TLC. 5) Evian Facial Spray (~$8) Okay, so this drugstore product feels a little bit like a splurge. I know you're thinking, Why do I need to spray water on my face? Well first of all, this mineral water is straight from the French Alps. And compared with other makeup refreshing sprays, this one is a real steal! Use it before/without makeup to keep skin looking fresh and hydrated; use this over your makeup to give your look that dewy, glowy finish that everyone's seeking this season. Most reviews I've read on this Evian Facial Spray recommend buying a travel-sized spray can for when you're six hours into your day and your makeup needs a little pick-me-up. I know a lot of you reading this are probably preparing for your final exams-- treat yo'self this week with something from this list! And if you're already living in the world of grown-ups, you definitely deserve to treat yo'self -- guilt-free -- with at least one of these fabulous drugstore products. Have a great week luvvies and don't forget your lipstick!
