It's a time to let your ghoulish charm shine! Your house is is probably (at least slightly) ready for Halloween, or at least fall. Unfortunately, the kitchen sometimes gets left out of the decorating consideration. That's ok, because it's in the kitchen where you can make make some truly creepy edible treats that are just as festive as any decoration.
I've long been a fan of the "dirt" cake. I mean, essentially I'm a fan of anything with an Oreo on it, but dirt cake is even a little more special than other Oreo treats. This is something most people only serve around Halloween. I wanted to take this opportunity to make my own version of dirt cake to share with my favorite LUVVS. This recipe is super easy, super creepy, and super perfect for your Halloween needs.
24 sugar cookies
4 cups of whipped cream
1 package of Oreos
1 package of cream cheese
2 tablespoons of Nutella
Creepy Halloween candies (worms, eyes, mouths, the likes)
First you will make the sugar cookies. Follow your own favorite homemade recipe like I am doing, or you can buy pre-baked/pre-made cookies at the store.
While the cookies are baking, begin making the graveyard frosting. The traditional recipe calls for pudding, which is great for the dirt cake, but for cookies, I stuck with something quick and easy that wouldn't need to set before using. Bonus: this will really help you if you need to make something Halloween-y in a pinch!
Mix together the Nutella and cream cheese. Then the whipped cream. After you are done, crush up 15 Oreos. I find it easiest to put them in a ziplock bag and hammer with a wooden spoon. Once the Oreos are crushed, hand stir the pieces in. The mixture should begin to look dark and dirt like.
After the frosting is made and the cookies are baked, now comes the fun part! Decorating!
You can buy so many creepy food items to put on something like this, but I went with the eyeballs, some worms, and some tombs.
Frost the cookies and then get creative with how to make the creepiest cookie you can. Don't forget to share some photos with us via HL's instagram of the cookies you make!
