Fall Simmer - A Natural Way to Freshen Your House for Autumn

by 11 October 01, 2014

DSC_2414 Earlier this year, I introduced the idea of a house simmer to you luvvs when I shared my recipe for a summer simmer. Well now that it's autumn, it's time to freshen up your house for a new season. I love that simmers are a natural way to use supplies in your kitchen to make your house smell delightful. In most cases for these simmers, you will essentially use things you probably already have in your house. This gives you a nice excuse to keep the rinds of certain fruit rather than to throw them away. Lord knows I love a good Woodwick pumpkin candle, but I would rank this fall simmer up there with the greatest of candles. This is perfect to use when you have a guest, or when you just want to make your house smell special for you and your family (pets included! Actually, they're probably the reason for it needing to smell better, ha). Recipe below, babes!

DIRECTIONS

I'm stepping up this simmer just a bit by incorporating part of the recipe from last week. Follow those directions in the link to learn how to hollow out an apple. Next take another apple and cut off just the rinds. Use the leftover apple for some delicious dessert, but keep the rinds for the simmer.

After that, cut the rinds of a pear. Next, fill up a pot with 3-5 cups of water. Then you will put in the filled apple and the pear + apple rinds.

Lastly, throw in your cinnamon and any cinnamon sticks you want, the cloves, and the vanilla butter and nut.

I wanted to explore with something other vanilla, and man I am SO glad that I did. It is FAB. You are going to appreciate it so much. Now, it'll make the water look yellow, but no big!

DSC_2403 This simmer will keep going as long as you want it to. When the water gets low, just add more, and the simmer will keep a-cookin'. Make this now, thank me later, and, lastly, LUVV IT! Happy Eats My Sweets, melinda-sig
