The ads for “back-to-school” shopping have started, all of our favorite stores are doing floor changes, and the weather is so humid it feels like a dog’s hot breath: these clues can only mean that summer is slowly melting away, therefore marking the time to transition into fall. While your wardrobe is getting an autumnal make-over, don’t neglect your makeup drawer!
Today’s post is all about hot-hot-hot makeup and beauty trends for the fall. Below you’ll find products, tips, and tricks to get you ready for the changing season.
Brows:
Yes, I am still obsessed with enormous eyebrows. If you listened to your old pal here and put down the tweezers, then the baby brows that you began cultivating over the summer should be ready to make their face-framing debut. The trend of the “feature brow” will be bolder than ever this fall and winter. Use brow pencils to define strong, shapely brows, or use a small angled brush with shadow/brow powder for a more natural (but still KILLER) look.
Pro Tip: Use a very light (or even shimmery) powder to highlight the bone beneath each eyebrow; this will make your feature brows seem even more dramatic.
Eyes:
For those of you who have finally mastered the cat-eye liner, fear not: the winged liner will still be super hot this fall. Try pairing your cat-eye look with a coppery orange shadow or a deep plum.
If you’re feeling extra edgy, try Vogue’s suggestion of a “futuristic sixties” look: heavy wings on top with liner dotted along the lower lash line. Check out my attempt at mastering this Twiggy-inspired look in our latest youtube tutorial.
Lips:
The matte lip trend slightly waned over the summer as we all slicked on easy-to-wear glosses and balms. Now the matte stain look is back for the fall and winter, appearing on runways in shades varying from deep plums to the bright reds we all love.

Go ahead and take all of your fun summer neon polishes and give them to your little sister. This fall the trend is all about nudes and taupes and – much like with our lips – a matte polish. For my matte mani, I just covered my semi-dry polish (Sand Tropez, by Essie) with a Matte Top Coat by Revlon. And it looks. SO. COOL.
The geometric nail art fad seems to be transcending from summer into fall, but be sure to tone it down by using natural colors. Nail art pens are a great tool for creating two-toned manicures with simple geometric designs.
Now that your face and your nails are ready for fall, it's time to break out the booties and the sweaters. Come visit us every day so you can stay on top of the fall's freshest styles from head to toe and hey, go put on some lipstick.
