DIY Welcome Mat

I don't know about you luvvies, but finding a door mat I really like is always a struggle for me. I usually just end up settling on one at Target that I like okay and calling it a day. For this week's DIY Thursday, I decided to remedy this rug indifference by making my own! Oh, and guess what?! It was totally easy! Let's get started!

DIY Rug SuppliesYou will need:

-One plain rug ( I purchased mine at Wal Mart for less than $2)

-A can of spray paint

-Large letter stickers (Can be found at your local craft supply store)

-A Ruler (Optional- depends on how comfortable you are eyeballing your letter placements)

DIY rug step oneFirst, I laid out my letters. Keep in mind that the letters will be the color of your rug, and the negative space will be the color of your spray paint. I know I mentioned that a ruler was optional, but it can definitely come in handy if you have a hard time with precision. I used one not only to make sure my words were fairly straight, but also to try to keep the letters as evenly spaced as I could.

DIY rug step 2Next, I spray painted my entire rug, stickers included. One tip is to try to do this from directly above your rug; should you try to spray paint at an angle, some color could get under the edges of the stickers and cause your lines not to be as clean. It took me 4 or 5 coats of paint to get my rug covered to the point I was happy with it.

DIY rugTo finish up my rug, I just had to let the spray paint dry and remove the stickers! It turned out pretty cute, if I do say so myself. This project is wonderful for two reasons: 1) it cost less than $10 and 2) it only took about 30 minutes to complete.

DIY rugNow my rug is resting safely in its new home on my back porch, right outside my husband's art studio. I think it is fun that he will see this little message from me every time he goes to paint :)

What do you luvvies think?!

See you next Thursday!
